Bio

Mariko Iguchi (b. 1990, Kyoto) is an artist whose work engages with technology, evolution, and history to investigate what it means to be human. Since graduating from Kyoto City University of the Arts in 2013, Mariko has developed these ideas through her “New People” series, a body of work which proposes an imagined future for Sapiens through a wide variety of material approaches. This work has been exhibited at galleries, community spaces, and local festivals throughout Japan. In May 2022, Mariko moved to Oshima, Fukuoka where she lives as a resident artist working with the island community and businesspeople to develop and support local revitalization projects.
